Groungdhog's Shadow at 39% Accuracy?

The day we wait for every year. Groundhog's Day. Big doings in a large part of the world. But has the little fellow lost his touch after 200 years? Yes, it's true. Rumors, and a state to state survey determined that the groundhog's ability to predict more winter or an early spring is no longer effective.

For the last several years his prediction accuracy rating has dropped to 39%. Indeed, we have placed our bets on the little fella for so long I suspect he may be one of the many suffering from PTSD - Punxsutawney (is) Tired (of) Shadow Day.

Beginning this year of 2015, the gathering of the Shadow Day will take place at the home of Kermit the Frog. He was officially asked to take Phil's place. When asked if he would serve, Kermit had this to say:

So on with the celebration... and a tune from that wonderful movie soundtrack, "Groundhog's Day."

  1. Kermit should definitely take Phil's place! I love your version of PTSD! I remember playing my Sonny and Cher album over and over again, which must have felt like Groundhog's Day for my family! This was fun!

    1. Hi Julie. Your comment is so funny! After all, what says green and Spring more than Kermit? Lucky you! I had to reserve air time on the family stereo to hear my song(s). And don't misbehave or Floyd Cramer will be playing "Last Date" for an hour!

      Thanks for visiting me today(smile)

  2. Great funny! lol I guess everyone is waiting to see what Phil has to say about the weather, but you know Phil isn't the only one who misses the forecast. We find our local meteorologists are missing the mark more and more often. We can call the forecast a little better looking at the radar and studying the general trend than some. Now....that's bad, really bad! Oh well...happy Groundhog's Day, Dixie!

    1. Cathy - radar can be so helpful... why rely on a rodent? Yet I'm sitting here in my studio watching huge clouds clear away. Bright sun shining through. And this, after four days of overcast, gray skies!I I haven't heard a peep out of Kermit.

      Happy PTSD day, Cathy! (smile)

    1. Oh Dezz, I hadn't heard that. I'll have to research. Ironically, last night after I posted this I watched her 1999 "Believe Tour." I hope things will go well for her.

    2. I've heard that her son (the one that changed his sex from girl to boy) is planning to give her his kidney or something

    3. That would be 'Chaz,' her child with Sonny. 'Elijah Blue,' is her child with Greg Allman.

I searched but couldn't find anything. I do remember hearing about the possible kidney transplant, but I don't remember from where I heard it. So if Chaz does that - would he have to come off of his medications to help her? - I hope things go well for her. Thank you, Dezzy!!

  4. We have our own Groundhog here, Wiarton Willie, but I haven't heard his forecast today. Don't know what his accuracy rating is either. I don't think Kermit would be a good replacement. Maybe Elmo. At least he has fur.

    1. Elmo? Remarkable suggestion, only I didn't have a photo of him. (smile)

  5. Even a magical rodent can't cope with the unsettling meteorological realities of global warming.

    1. I know, Debra. I seriously doubt he can even pronounce the word, meteorological. It was touch and go there, for a moment, for me. (LOL)

  6. If the weathermen can't get the predictions right with all the technology available to them, should we believe a groundhog? But it's fun anyway. Have a great week, Dixie!

  8. Thirty-nine percent is still much better than the weather forecasters' predictions.

Kermit's a good choice. I believe anything he says, even though he's in love with a snobby pig.

    1. Robyn - could the snobby pig muster a # 325 at your place? (smile),

  9. 39%. Yikes.

    I loved that movie, though:)

  10. I'm still yet to see Groundhog Day. Which is really sad because it's such a classic.

    1. Michael - you've got to see it at least once. They do some really crazy stuff!

  11. I remember being on a plane once and seeing Groundhog Day. It was a long flight - all flights from New Zealand are - and when it finished, another movie started up. I don't sleep on planes, so I settled in to watch the next film. It was Groundhog Day! And then after our brief stop in LA, the first movie they showed was… You guessed it, Groundhog Day. I arrived in London feeling like I'd lived the movie….

    1. Oh my goodness, Kate. I reckon you did live it. So the sound of Sonny and Cher had great memories for you. (smile).

  12. Hi Dixie. Sorry I missed this post. I've been so busy with my book, I can't see straight. My husband and I absolutely love this movie!! We have watched it yearly on Groundhog Day for the last several years (it's true!). Poor Kermit would never ever make the cut. LOL. It's Phil forever!! Weren't Sonny and Cher fabulous?

  13. Hi Sharon. I agree that the movie is something else! Sonny and Cher were always a favorite - took me a long time to forgive them their break up! (Sharon, I think Kermit agrees with you.) Best wishes on the book! I'm glad you visited.(smile)
